DECT infrastructure

By choosing the right mix of base stations and the appropriate antennas you can ensure quality coverage and sufficient traffic capacity exactly where you need it.

BS330 Base Station

The BC330 is the standard solution for most business premises. Although typical indoor coverage is 30 m, actual coverage depends on factors such as the spacing of walls and the building materials used. The BS330 supports up to 8 simultaneous speech calls per base station. Remaining signaling capacity is reserved for DECT SMS messaging and alarm handling. Whilst the BS330 is primarily designed for indoor coverage, an outdoor housing is available for outdoor applications. Outdoor coverage is up to 300 m.

BS340 Base Station

The BS340 shares the basic characteristics of the BS330, but comes with two external omni-directional dipole antennas. These default antennas provide a spherical coverage pattern and a number of directional antennas is available as alternatives. The directional antennas radiate more in certain directions than in others. The benefit with the alternative antennas is the ability to direct coverage exactly where you need it, reducing overall cost in cases where the ideal coverage shape is not a sphere.

BS370 Base Station

This base station is suitable for low to medium traffic capacity areas where cabling is a problem. The BS370 is connected to the cordless PBX via a radio link to a BS330 or BS340 host base station. The radio signals from the cordless phones to the BS370 are retransmitted from the BS370 towards the host base station. The host base station sends the signals to the system. The other way round, the BS370 receives radio signals of the host base station and retransmits them to the cordless phones within the BS370’s coverage area. It extends the coverage area of the host base station without the need to lay a new cable, saving man hours and avoiding disruption. The BS370 only needs a local power adapter, so it can for instance be mounted on a lamppost and use the same power supply.

FRP22/RFP24

The indoor RFP 22 provides four to eight simultaneous call connections with one to two UPN interfaces. It is powered via the 2-wire system interface and has a range of 1000 m.

The outddor RFP 24 has the same functions as the RFP 22, but has been designed specially for use outdoors and complies with the IP 65 class of protection. The RFP 24 can be operated either with dipole or radio relay antennas, thereby adapting perfectly to the operating conditions

RFP 32 and RFP 34
Indoor and outdoor RFPs are used to set up a DECT radio network over the entire company premises. The indoor variant RFP 32 has an integrated omni-directional antenna, while the outdoor RFP 34 has external ones. Each radio fixed part works flexibly with 12 of 120* the available radio channels and guarantees sufficient call capacity.
RFP 32IP and RFP 34 IP
The indoor base station RFP 32 IP enables the complete integration of DECT radio networks into the IP infrastructure and provides 8 simultaneous call connections. It is powered either via a separate power supply unit or via Power-over-Ethernet.

The outdoor base station RFP 34 IP performs the outdoor operating requirements (class of protection IP 65). If required, radio relay antennas can also be used instead of the dipole antennas. The RFP 34 IP is powered using Power-over-Ethernet.

RFP 42 WLAN

The RFP 42 WLAN judiciously combines two mobile standards: DECT on the one hand allows mobile system phones to be operated while the integrated WLAN access point ensures that mobile PCs or workstations have access to the corporate network. The centralised management means that a hotspot with several WLAN access points can be set up.

SIP-DECT adds the comfort of mobility to VoIP networks, based on two technologies:

  • Voice over IP (VoIP) – Voice is conveyed via an IP data network to an IP radio fixed part.
  • DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) Tried and tested technology for conveying voice securely via the air from the IP radio fixed part to the handset

To enable users enjoy the advantages of using IP networks  together with the DECT technology, Aastra has developed radio fixed parts (RFP) with IP interfaces for integrating DECT into IP networks. These radio fixed parts (RFP L32 IP and RFP L34 IP) are connected to the network like IP terminals. Voice is conveyed via VoIP to the radio fixed part and from the RFP to the air via DECT.

Therefore, employees can always be reached via their call numbers, regardless of whether they are in a branch of the company or at the head office. Using the same IP connections for data and telephony saves additional infrastructure and, thus, costs.

No matter the size and range of the IP network, a single Open Mobility Manager (OMM) is enough to manage all RFPs of the multi-cellular DECT network. This is installed on any of the RFPs by software. The OMM manages up to 256 RFPs and 512 handsets.

The base station RFP L42 WLAN allows the integration of mobile data transmission via WLAN in parallel using the same network. Central administration of the DECT and WLAN network available via a browser interface.
